Twelve members plus two guests took part in Sunday's "Fun Day Competition". The competition consisted of three rounds of petanque based games designed to test the various skills required to be an expert petanque player plus one round of "Smite". Smite is a skittles type game played in many parts of Europe under various different names.

The first round of "noughts and crosses" tested peoples shooting skills. Alison came out on top in this round scoring 150 points.

The second round tested the players pointing skills.over various distances. Ian won this round with a score of 210. Gabrielle was not too far behind scoring 200 points.

Throwing the jack was the theme of the third round and it proved to be the most challenging. Several players failed to register any score at all.. But, by managing to hit the target on three attempts out of six and scorining 80 points Ian was the winner of the jack throwing round.

The fourth and final round was based on a skittles type game with some similarities to petanque in as much as the player has to throw the baton with the objective of knocking down the skittles. Each player had six throws and scored 10 points for every skittle knocked over. By scoring a magnificent 340 points Rodney was the winner of this round with Alex, one of the guest players, a close second on 320 points.

It was Rodney's performance in the last round that elevated him to overall winner with a combined total of 590 points. In joint second place were Barry and Alex on 520 points followed by Gill on 490 points.

Ian, who had designed the games, presented Rodney with his prize and medal.

After the competition many of the competitors enjoyed a magnificent barbeque at Ians home prepred by Ian and Annette.
