On Saturday the Devon Region Triples Competition was held at the Ottery St Mary Petanque Club terrain. Twelve teams competed for the title and the opportunity to represent the region at the Champion of Champions event to be held at Leicester PC in October.

The event took place on the hottest day of the year so far. The teams were divided into two leagues of six and started with a Round Robin with each team playing every other team in their league. Games were time limited to one hour. The teams finishing top of each league then played each other to decide the overall winner and the teams finishing second played off for third a fourth places.

Dave Cheeseman, Peter Ackland and Richard Brickles from Ottery finished top of league A so the played Colin Worden and Ian Wilson (from Plymouth PC) and Michael Wheatley from Bridgwater PC winners of league B. The Ottery team were worthy winners coming out on top 13-5.

The third and fourth place play off was a much closer contest. Jo Beer, Kaye Clydesdale and Maggie Milton from Wellington narrowly beating Jenny Burns-Price, Mike Porter and Chris Green 13-11.

A big thank you to the Ottery Club for hosting the event and to John and Karen for organising and keeping the scores.
