On Sunday the 28th of June we held the second Bridgwater Petanque Club Singles Competition, the first to be held on our new terrain in Victoria Park.

Ten members took part. The morning saw a "mini melee" type competition with each player playing four time limited games. The competitors were then ranked according to the number of games won and their points difference. Neil was the only player to win all four of his games with Barry and Rodney winning three. Barry had a better points difference, +20 with Rodney having + 13. Malcolm topped the group of players with two wins with a +8 points difference just beating Ian who had a +6 points difference. Then came Phil (2 wins 0 points difference), Simon (1 win -7),Gill (1 win -8), Val (1 win -17) and Alison (0 wins -20).

After a picnic lunch in the sunshine all the competitors played one more game to determine the overall winner and the minor placings. This time the games were not time but played to the first to 13.

The two matches for the medal positions were both close run things.

In the match for gold and silver Barry was the winner narrowly beating Neil, suffering his first loss of the day, 13 -11.

The match for the bronze medal was even closer with Rodney just beating Malcolm 13-12.

In the matches for the minor places, Ian beat Phil 13 - 9, Simon beat Gill 7 - 4 (Gill retired hurt) and Alison beat Val 13 - 8.

A quick fire game of "killer", that Ian organised, was held with Ian walking away with the cash prize of £5.

The medals and tophy were then awarded by last years Singles Champion Ian.

Well done to all those who took part and to Gabrielle who gave her, sometimes vocal, support.
